The Davie Parks and
Recreation Department
has implemented a
coaches training program
to assist volunteers in
the development of youth
sports participants. We
are happy to offer to
you the National Youth
Sports Coaches
Association program to
better help you learn
the proper coaching
techniques. NYSCA
classes will be
available to all coaches
in each individual sport
offered by the Parks and
Recreation Department.
NYSCA introduces the
coaches to areas of
Sport Philosophy,
Psychology, Medicine,
Management, Physiology
and Pedagogy. Coaches
interested in this
program will need to set
up a class with our
Clinicians.
Our philosophy is:
“ATHLETES FIRST, WINNING
SECOND.” We want you to
adopt this philosophy
and hope your decisions
and behavior are based,
on what is best for your
athlete, then on what
may improve your chances
of winning.
Winning is fun and
exciting, and is
important as well. But,
winning is not just
final scores. Learning
team play, becoming
physically fit,
developing lifetime
skills, and having fun
are also necessary.
Coaches are in a
position to set a high
example of sportsmanship
and leadership and are
responsible for the
conduct of their team
whether on the field or
sideline. Items that all
coaches should remember
are:
1. Contact players by
phone to inform them of
their team assignment.
Be sure to speak to a
responsible older
child/adult. Inform them
of your name, phone
number and their first
practice date, time and
site. Practices for 4 ˝
-8 year olds should
start no later than
6:30PM and finish no
later than 7:15PM.
Practices for 9-14 year
olds should finish no
later than 9:00pm.
Practices should be
limited to 1 1/2 hours
twice a week. Once games
begin, teams should only
practice once a week.
Tackle football will
practice 4 days per
week.
2. Players may not
participate with your
team unless they are
legally registered.
Legally added players
must present an official
receipt from the Parks
and Recreation
Department.
3. Team assignments are
final. Players may not
transfer to another
team, unless approved by
the Athletics
Coordinator.
4. Participants must
play their required time
per game, and more where
possible.
5. If you are unsure how
to handle a child,
parent or team problem,
please contact the
Athletics Coordinator
for assistance.
Remember, we are here to
help – 954-423-5110.
6. Late registrations
are accepted in order to
fill teams to their
capacity. If teams are
filled, those persons
wishing to register will
be put on a waiting
list.
7. Advertising on
uniforms and playing
fields is prohibited
unless governed by the
Parks and Recreation
Department.
8. Coaches are not
allowed to purchase
additional items to
replace, or be worn
with, the standard
uniform handed out by
the Parks and Recreation
Department.
9. Call 911 IN CASE OF
EMERGENCY.
10. Accident reports
must be turned in to the
Program Coordinator
within 24 hours of
accident occurrence.
11. Please be aware that
it is our responsibility
to instruct players on
the hazards, proper
techniques, and
sportsmanship involved
in participating in our
programs.
12. Please be organized
and plan your practices
and instruction. The
basic fundamentals and
skills must be taught to
prepare the participants
for the games.
13. The Town of Davie
Parks and Recreation
Youth Sports Program is
strictly recreational.
Our main responsibility
to the youth is to
stress having fun while
learning.
14. The Head Coach shall
be responsible for the
care and return of all
equipment issued to him
for his/her team’s use.
He/she must pay the Town
of Davie for lost
equipment at the end of
the season before he can
be eligible to coach
another sports season.
15. Remember. . .
without you, our program
would not be possible.
Your time and efforts
are greatly appreciated
by the Department and
everyone involved in the
program. |
